Over 100 Wi-Fi label printers across 20+ sites, printer switching by barcode scan, zero effort in Lasernet.

The user scans the barcode on the printer and is paired with it. The rest happens in the ERP.

Industry: Logistics, multiple sites

The problem

Over 100 Wi-Fi label printers, spread across more than 20 sites. Any user should be able to grab any scanner and any label printer and print to it right away. Without anyone having to touch the ERP or Lasernet.

The solution

  1. Set up the printer on the print server. Print a barcode, stick it on the printer. That was the entire setup.
  2. The user scans the barcode on the printer with their scanner. That pairs their user with this printer.
  3. The pairing lives in the ERP system itself: a combination of code from the ERP integrator and LAC Predefined Destination. By the time the print job goes out, the printer name is already in it.
  4. Effort in Lasernet and ERP: zero. No routing table, no script, nothing.
  5. Tested: the Predefined Destination logic and the Cloud Print Connector.

What it delivered

Switching printers is self-service. New printer: set it up, slap a barcode on it, done. No ERP ticket, no IT trip to the site, no touching Lasernet.
