Reports go out PGP-encrypted over FTP, and nobody encrypts by hand.

Lasernet generates the report, a Command Line Modifier encrypts it with the recipient's public key, and only then does the file hit the wire.

Industry: Services, reporting to external partners

The problem

Plain FTP transfers in the clear. Anyone listening on the line gets the data as plaintext. That's exactly the route reports with confidential data took to a partner, regularly. To keep that from happening in the open, an employee encrypted and uploaded the files by hand before every send. With everything that can go wrong: wrong file, wrong key, forgotten upload, nobody notices.

The solution

  1. Lasernet generates the report from the business data.
  2. A Command Line Modifier PGP-encrypts the file with the recipient's public key.
  3. Only then does the file go out over FTP.
  4. The upload is logged.
  5. If it fails, the file stays in the queue and the person responsible gets an email.

What it delivered

Nothing readable travels the line anymore. Anyone listening sees cipher. And nobody encrypts by hand.
